Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Melody A. Currey Tuesday afternoon announced the appointment of Victor M. Diaz, the deputy city clerk of Waterbury, as deputy commissioner of the agency.

The Democrat's name had been floating around in political circles as a candidate for the job, and Currey confirmed those rumors in a late-afternoon press release.

Following is the wording of the DMV press release:

Diaz has served since 2005 as Deputy City Clerk in Waterbury. His work focused on budget management and technology upgrades to improve efficiency and customer service.
Governor Dannel P. Malloy praised the appointment of Diaz and his work in Waterbury city government, especially his outreach to communities and his focus on using technology to make it easier for customers to access government services.
