Jacqueline Mandyck, a political appointee of Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell who got a $113,623-a-year job on the permanent state payroll near the end of Rell's term, was notified Thursday that she was being fired from her new position while still in her probationary period.

Mandyck, of West Hartford, could not be reached for comment Thursday night.

She had been appointed by Rell as deputy commissioner of consumer protection in 2007. But this past October, as the Rell administration was winding down, Mandyck became one of a number of political aides with no merit-system job protections to land a big job on the civil service payroll at a state agency.
