Bysiewicz rolls out endorsements; list includes many from 2nd CD

Former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz today rolled out a long list of people who are endorsing her candidacy for U.S. Senate.

"Our campaign continues to pick up momentum since we announced last month. I am honored to have so many Democratic leaders in Connecticut supporting my campaign," she said in a statement.

Bysiewicz has lined up significant backing from Democrats in the 2nd Congressional District, including the Enfield Democratic Town Committee and town chairs in Groton, Griswold, Lebanon, Lisbon, Stonington, Old Saybrook and Bolton.

Is this a signal that 2nd District U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney is not running for Senate? Local party folks usually line up behind their representative -- witness all the 5th District Dems that have signed on to Rep. Chris Murphy's campaign.

The fact that Bysiewicz (who, by the way, lives in Middletown and deep roots in the sprawling 2nd) has locked up significant support in eastern Connecticut might indicate that Courtney is opting out of a senate run. He's said he'll make his decision by the end of the month.

Meanwhile, the Bysiewicz campaign said it's thrilled with the endorsements. "Susan is not focused on who is running and who isn't,'' said spokesman Mark Bergman. "She is just working to build as much support across the state as she can."
