State Treasurer Nappier's Official Car Ticketed For Parking In Handicapped Space; Aide Says Ticket Was Waived; Circumstances Being Checked

Democratic State Treasurer Denise Nappier's official car was ticketed Tuesday night for parking in a handicapped space near the West Hartford restaurant in which she was the speaker at a meeting of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Connecticut Chapter.

Nappier was dropped off at the restaurant -- Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar at 44 South Main St. -- and she didn't see where her driver, executive assistant Wayne Hypolite, had parked the state car with its official Connecticut license plate "4," said Christine Shaw, director of government relations for the treasurer's office.

Shaw said Thursday afternoon that Hypolite told her that he went to the West Hartford town parking division on Wednesday and got the $107 ticket excused. "He went to West Hartford and asked them to waive it," Shaw said. "He was under the impression that he was in the area on official business, and that was the reason he asked that the ticket be vacated," Shaw said.
