Gov. Dannel P. Malloy responded at a press conference Wednesday morning to comments by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie -- to the Morning Joe television hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough on MSNBC -- that Malloy "has got to read the governor's owners manual."
Christie said on the show that he would be "waiting at the border" to grab Connecticut jobs because of the tax-hike proposal that Malloy has made for the next two fiscal years beginning July 1.
At a press conference at which he had announced his nomination of Lubbie Harper Jr. of North Haven to the State Supreme Court, Malloy said: "New Jersey's sales tax as of today is 7 percent. New Jersey's income tax today has a maximum rate of 8.97 percent. New Jersey's corporate tax ranges up to 9 percent. So if he's waiting for Connecticut jobs to move to New Jersey, he should not hold his breath."
