Attorney General George Jepsen will have his head shaved this Thursday in an annual event to raise money for researching children's cancer.

Jepsen will participate with 37 fellow volunteers in the third annual St. Baldrick's fundraiser on Pratt Street in downtown Hartford.

The event raised more than $500,000 three years ago and more than $400,000 last year as large donations came from Hartford-area insurance companies and employees, according to the organizers.

The "shavees'' participate to show their solidarity with the children.

Started three years ago by Porter Dowling, a high school student, the event has attracted corporate executives and Capitol lobbyists who have shaved their heads.

Jepsen's haircut is scheduled to begin at about 5 p.m. at The Society Room at 31 Pratt Street, near the XL Center.
