New York State Senator Indicted On Bribery Charges; FBI Had Wiretaps On Sen. Carl Kruger - Like Ernie Newton In CT

The New York papers have been writing extensively over the past week about state Sen. Carl Kruger, who was indicted on bribery charges in a tangled case in New York.

Kruger is well known in the Mill Basin section of Brooklyn, which is sometimes known for its ties to mobsters. He lives in a gigantic, 7,000-square-foot waterfront home - complete with a Bentley out front - with two adult brothers who are both doctors, as well as their 73-year-old mother.

The senator supposedly lives nearby with his sister, but the New York papers say he actually lives in the home with the Turano family. He and the 73-year-old mother have reportedly been a couple, "but the pair remained something of a riddle to those around them,'' according to The New York Times. One of the Turano brothers, Michael, was charged in the criminal case with Kruger.

The indictment includes details from an FBI wiretap, which captured conversations between Kruger and many others. The last time that happened in Connecticut was the case of state Sen. Ernie Newton, who was sent to prison on bribery and other charges after the FBI recorded multiple conversations of Newton and others.

To add another twist, Kruger and the Turano family live in a home that was actually constructed for a high-ranking member of the Luchese crime family. And the architect of the ostentatious home, who apparently had learned too much about the crime family, was killed in 1991.
