Dan Roberti, a Democrat running for Congress in the 5th District, has brought in about $255,000 in the first quarter of the 2012 cycle, according to a source familiar with the numbers.

Roberti, who has never served in elective office before, is expected to announce his fundraising numbers on Friday, but tonight, his campaign declined to comment.

"We'll comment on specifics after we file tomorrow, but the early response has been great, and tomorrow we will file with a strong fundraising total that shows that donors have been inspired by Dan Roberti's story, energy, and ideas,'' Dan Kelly, a Roberti advisor said via email.

Roberti is one of two Democrats who jumped into the race this week. Former state Rep. Elizabeth Etsy of Cheshire also announced she is running. The current occupant of the seat, Democratic U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy, is running for U.S. Senate instead of seeking reelection in 2012.
