Krayeske Spurned Financial Settlement In Suit He Lost; Says He Refused Money When City Officials Wouldn't Apologize

Kenneth Krayeske, the Green Party activist and freelance journalist who was arrested in 2007 at then-Gov. M. Jodi Rell's inauguration parade, has lost his four-year federal lawsuit against Hartford police for wrongful arrest.

A U.S. District Court jury in Bridgeport on Friday found in favor of the city and Jeff Antuna, the police officer who arrested him.

But Krayeske said in an interview this week that he would do it all again. He added that he could have settled the case about a month before last week's trial for $20,000 but turned down settlement offer because Hartford officials refused to apologize.

"Money meant nothing to me without an apology," Krayeske said. "Who couldn't use 20 grand? But without an apology, I'm not taking it -- because they didn't think they did anything wrong. A government that cannot acknowledge wrongdoing puts itself on a par with a god."
