Just a few weeks after rating the Connecticut U.S. Senate race a "toss up" in the wake of potentially damaging disclosures in the New York Times that Democrat Richard Blumenthal misrepresented his military record, the respected Cook Political Report today moved the race back to "leans Democratic."
"Like many observers, we felt that the story might prove nearly fatal to Blumenthal's Senate campaign,'' the Cook report states. "However, two polls have been released since May 19 to suggest that Blumenthal may have sustained just limited damage from the controversy."
In fact, a Quinnipiac University poll taken last week showed Blumenthal with a 25 point lead over GOP rival Linda McMahon.
