There will be no vote this year on Sunday liquor sales - signaling another in a long series of victories for the Connecticut Package Stores Association.
Rep. Kathleen Tallarita, an Enfield Democrat who has become the legislature's most outspoken proponent of Sunday sales, stood on the floor of the House of Representatives on Wednesday night and said she was dropping the fight for this year.
"I will not be calling that amendment on this bill at this time,'' Tallarita said as some of her colleagues reacted with groans.
Tallarita could have called the amendment on the bill, An Act Concerning Establishing A Connecticut Beer Trail.
The move was a victory for Carroll Hughes, a longtime lobbyist who is the executive director of the package stores association. Based on an unofficial count, some believed that the package stores had more than 90 votes against the Sunday sales.
