Attorney General Jepsen Sends SEBAC Complaint To State Auditors; SEBAC Sought Investigation Of Yankee Institute

Attorney General George Jepsen has asked the bipartisan state auditors to investigate a complaint by the state employees' union against the Hartford-based Yankee Institute.

The unions had charged that the conservative institute, based on the campus of Trinity College, was seeking to sabotage the deal between the unions and Gov. Dannel P. Malloy that would reportedly save $1.6 billion over two years. But Republicans, including House Minority Leader Larry Cafero, say that at least $600 million of the savings are illusory and ill-defined.

"We have received a letter alleging improper use of the state email system,'' Jepsen said Monday in a statement. "Pursuant to the whistleblower statute, Conn. Gen. Stat. Section 4-61dd, we are referring the matter to the Connecticut State Auditors of Public Accounts for their consideration. We will continue to review claims that state computer laws have been violated. At this time, there is insufficient information to comment further on the merits of these serious allegations."
