State Democratic Chairwoman Nancy DiNardo is catching flak from some Democrats for her decision to participate in a fundraiser for the Boy Scouts, which has long been criticized for its policy toward gay people.
But an unlikely ally has come to her defense.
State Republican Chairman Chris Healy said DiNardo ought to be commended for her participation in the event.
""It is disturbing that anyone would question Nancy motives in supporting Scouting and her community," Healy said in an email. "Nancy is a good person and she deserves the honor from the Scouts and to ask others to join her in that effort."
"Scouting programs in Connecticut have been a positive force in the development of young men for generations," added Healy, who has served on the board of director of the Connecticut Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts of Anerica. "In particular, urban scouting programs have offered invaluable opportunities to inner city youths, propelling many of these Scouts to successful careers."
