The Connecticut sports world is mourning the death of RuthAnn Lobo, who fought a 17-year battle against breast cancer.
As the mother of one of the best-known basketball players in state history, Lobo was pushed into the spotlight when she was diagnosed when her daughter, Rebecca, was a junior at the University of Connecticut.
Even as the semi-famous parents of a very famous daughter, Lobo and her husband, Dennis, were completely unassuming as residents of Simsbury, their adopted hometown after moving from Massachusetts. They never sought to bring attention to themselves when they were seen around town over the past decade, and they always seemed like they just wanted to be regular citizens. And they accomplished that with grace.
