Gov. Dannel P. Malloy will journey to Bristol this afternoon to make what his office says is a major economic development announcement at the headquarters of ESPN.

The governor has been traveling the state in recent months to promote his "First Five" jobs initiative. The effort, approved by the legislature during the last session, gives tax credits to the first five companies to announce that they are creating at least 200 jobs or invest $25 million and create at least 200 jobs within five years.

So far CIGNA and South Windsor-based TicketNetwork have participated in the program.

ESPN already announced it was adding 200 jobs in March; the question for state whether ESPN even needs the incentives. For a bit more on this story, turn to the Courant's business page.
