The leaders of unions representing state workers are holding a press event today to spotlight the impact proposed budget cuts could have on services.
The event, scheduled for this afternoon at Middlesex Community College, is the latest in a series of gatherings designed to highlight what could happen if state workers once again reject a wage and benefit concession agreement. The agreement is designed to save the state $1.6 billion over two years; if it is rejected, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said he has no choice but to layoff employees, cut programs and close offices.
"We've brought state employees together to send a message to other state employees...in support of the revised agreement,'' said Matt O'Connor, spokesman for the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition, the umbrella group for the state employee unions.
