State employee union continues to highlight the impact of pending layoffs

The coalition representing the state employee labor unions is keeping its focus on the impact of pending layoffs; this morning it will bring its campaign to York Correctional Facility.

The State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition has been holding similar events across the state over the past three weeks. This afternoon at 12:15, SEBAC will bring together animal control officers who have received layoff notices. those workers investigate allegations of animal cruelty and oversee a program that allows inmates at York to work with farm animals in a therapeutic setting.

The coalition is hoping to convince the majority of the state's 45,000 unionized workers to support a concession agreement with the Malloy administration designed to save the state $1.6 billion over the next two years. The agreement did not meet the threshold for approval in the first round of voting but after a tweaking of the rules and clarifyng language, the coalition is bringing it to workers for a re-vote.

Some unions have already concluded their second vote on the pact, but many others are slated to vote this week. The process is expected to conclude on Thursday.

Gov. Malloy has said if an agreement is not reached he will have no choice but to cut services and layoff off thousands of state workers.
