Former U.S. Rep. Rob Simmons Endorses Republican Chris Shays Over Linda McMahon In U.S. Senate GOP Primary

Former U.S. House members Chris Shays and Rob Simmons served for six years together in Washington, D.C. - often voting the same way as moderate Republicans from New England.

They didn't agree on every single issue but came together on fiscal matters more often than not. Now, Simmons has endorsed Shays in the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate over wrestling entrepreneur Linda McMahon.

Simmons battled bitterly against McMahon in the 2010 primary and did not have much good to say about his rival. As such, an endorsement of McMahon was highly unlikely.

It turns out, according to Roll Call, that Shays and Simmons had both agreed that they would not run against each other for the open seat that is being vacated by U.S. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman.
