The two Democratic gubernatorial contenders - Ned Lamont and Dannel Malloy - are scheduled to debate at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the local NBC affiliate studio in West Hartford.

It will be the first televised debate since the state Democratic Party convention, where Malloy won the party's endorsement by more than a 2 to 1 margin. Lamont, though, has been leading Malloy by 17 percentage points in both post-convention polls that were conducted by Quinnipiac University.

The one-hour debate will be broadcast live, and longtime NBC anchor Gerry Brooks is scheduled to be the moderator. Questions are being solicited from viewers, and the station has been mentioning the debate on its broadcasts.

Lamont and Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele are both scheduled as guests with veteran broadcaster Tom Monahan on this Sunday morning's "Connecticut Newsmakers'' broadcast at 6:30 a.m. It will be rebroadcast on the Sunday night loop on the CT-N public affairs network. Fedele is seeking the Republican nomination for governor against former U.S. Ambassador to Ireland Tom Foley of Greenwich and longtime business executive Oz Griebel of Simsbury
