A lawyer affiliated with the congressional campaign of 5th District Republican Sam Caligiuri has filed a complaint with the state Elections Enforcement Commission regarding opponent Mark Greenberg's drive to secure a place on the Aug. 10 primary ballot.
Greenberg, a businessman from Litchfield, did not seek the GOP endorsement at the party's nominating convention last month. Instead, he opted to collect signatures to force his way onto the ballot.
The strategy was deemed successful earlier this week, when Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz determined that Greenberg had gathered enough signatures to qualify for the primary.
But the outcome of the Elections Enforcement Complaint could change that. Attorney Robert D. Russo, on behalf of the Caligiuri campaign, contends that some of those signatures may not valid.
