The increasingly sharp tone of the Democratic gubernatorial contest is starting to wear on some party stalwarts.
"It's really getting ugly out there - and I wish it would stop,'' writes Jon Kantrowitz on My Left Nutmeg. He was referring to Monday's back-and-forth between Ned Lamont and Dan Malloy over Malloy's claim -- questioned in this Courant story -- that he brought 5,000 new jobs while he was mayor of Stamford.
Democrats are publicly fretting that this intra-party sniping could hurt the party. "None of this is going to help us elect a Democratic governor,'' Kantrowitz says.
Over at Orient Lodge, Aldon Hynes peruses the press releases issued by both Malloy and Lamont and concludes that both candidates have issued the same percentage of whiny press releases.
And Democratic strategist Jonathan Pelto stikes a simlar note of concern over the impact of the nastiness between the Malloy and Lamont camps in a column he wrote for CT News Junkie.
"Key players in both of the Connecticut Democratic gubernatorial campaigns are working hard to ensure that we all recognize that despite their dedication, intelligence and experience, neither Dan Malloy nor Ned Lamont have what it takes to put our state back on track,'' Pelto writes.
