Secretary of the State candidate Denise Merrill announced today that she has met the qualifications for public financing.
Candidates for constitutional offices such as Secretary of the State qualify for public money if they raise $75,000 in contributions of $100 or less from qualified donors. If that meet that requirement, they are eligible for a $375,000 state grant to fund their campaigns.
"I could not have reached this milestone without the dedicated support of countless volunteers and the faith of more than 1,200 contributors,'' Merrill said in a statement. "I am honored by the trust and confidence they have put in me. As an early sponsor of the clean elections laws, it is a particular honor to be among the first statewide candidates to put this law into practice."
Merrill received the endorsement of Democrats at the party convention in May.
