Patru: Timing of new ad has "very little" to do with tonight's debate

Republican U.S, Senate Linda McMahon's well-oiled campaign machinery has made it a habit of perfectly timing their attacks against democrat Richard Blumenthal. The initial Vietnam video surfaced just days before the state Republican convention -- and proved to wary delegates that McMahon was the real deal.

Today's ad, with its new Vietnam "misstatement" was timed to appear just hours before the candidates square off in a much-anticipated debate.

But McMahon spokesman Ed Patru said via email that "the timing of the ad has very little to do with the debate, and everything to do with the fact that Dick Blumenthal is lying about his support for a national energy tax by saying he doesn't support it even though he personally lobbied for it, and the fact that he's trying to scare people by lying about Linda's position on the minimum wage.

"He has a problem with being truthful, and his lies about Vietnam demonstrate that very clearly,'' Patru said. "If he's willing to lie about something as sacrosanct as serving in a foreign war, he will lie about anything."
