Republican U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon has now spent nearly $40 million of her own money in her quest to win a seat in the U.S. Senate.
McMahon's campaign released a summary of her third-quarter campaign finance report this afternoon. It shows that she spent $18,226,085 in the filing period, which ran from July 22 to Sept. 30.
McMahon had indicated early in the election cycle that she was prepared to spend up to $50 million on the campaign.
McMahon's Democratic opponent, Richard Blumenthal, announced last week that he has raised more than $1.6 million in the third quarter.
In addition to the money collected from donors, Blumenthal said he lent his campaign $500,000.
