Republican state chairman Christopher Healy has filed a complaint that alleges voter fraud in Bridgeport, one of the state's key Democratic strongholds.
Healy tells the State Elections Enforcement Commission that two men who received absentee ballot applications had given their address as 1238 North Avenue in Bridgeport. That address, however, is a vacant lot, Healy said. He provided a photograph on his blog.
Bridgeport played a key role in the election of Democrat Jim Himes over then-U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays, a longtime Stamford resident who had since moved to Bridgeport. Himes received about 30,000 votes in Bridgeport, while Shays received less than 8,000.
President Barack Obama, who won a huge victory in Bridgeport in the 2008 presidential election, will be coming to the city on October 30 to rally the voters.
