With less than two weeks before election day, Gov. M. Jodi Rell has endorsed Republican Tom Foley and taped a radio commercial on his behalf.

"We need Tom Foley to be our next governor,'' Rell says as soft music plays in the background in the 60-second commercial. "He has the experience and temperament that Connecticut needs right now. I know Tom. He's a businessman, a family man, and a leader. ... Tom Foley is the right choice for Connecticut.''

Rell had not endorsed anyone in the Republican primary - surprising many insiders who initially thought that she would endorse her one-time running mate, Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele of Stamford. Rell, however, did not endorse Fedele or raise money for him as he lost both the convention nomination and the primary to Foley.

Rell, who will be leaving office in early January, has also taped a radio commercial for Linda McMahon, the former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO whom Rell nominated to the state school board.

"Most of all, Linda is a good person,'' Rell says in the commercial. "I trust Linda.''
