Linda McMahon supports abortion rights -- with a few caveats -- and made millions running a business that once produced sexually-provocative programming. But way back in March, a leading social conservative in the state said he was open to supporting her.
On Monday, Peter Wolfgang, executive director of the Family Institute of Connecticut, made it official: he announced his personal endorsement of McMahon, a Republican running for U.S. Senate. (The Family Institute doesn't endorse in federal races, just state legislative contests.)
In announcing his backing of McMahon, Wolfgang said he's not going with "the lesser of two evils." The decision to back the former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO came after much prayer and reflection, as well as many conversations with McMahon and her staff.
It's not a perfect fit, Wolfgang acknowledged in a letter to supporters. "Linda McMahon's views on the sanctity of human life and the protection of marriage are still evolving. She is not, say, Rick Santorum,'' Wolfgang writes.
