Republican Martha Dean is questioning Democrat George Jepsen's legal qualifications to be Connecticut's attorney general, and the issue is now headed to court.

Dean's legal action came after state Republican chairman Chris Healy also questioned Jepsen's qualifications, saying that Jepsen was essentially a part-time lawyer for many years when he was spending much of his time as a state legislator, Senate majority leader, state Democratic chairman, and then chairman of Ned Lamont's 2006 Senate campaign during a long political career.

The Jepsen campaign, however, notes that he is a Harvard Law School graduate who has been practicing law for the past 26 years.

Dean says that an emergency court hearing is set for 10:00 a.m. Thursday at state Superior Court at 95 Washington Street in Hartford - a short walk from the state Capitol.

Dean is represented in the case by longtime Hartford attorney Wesley Horton, who represented Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz in a high-profile case regarding her qualifications to be attorney general. The State Supreme Court ruled, 7 - 0, that Bysiewicz was not qualified because she did not have the minimum of 10 years active practice of the law, which is the standard under the law to be attorney general.
