It's official.

The Bridgeport election returns are in.

The total in Bridgeport is 17,973 votes for Democrat Dannel Malloy and 4,099 for Republican Tom Foley, according to Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch's office.

Those totals were sent to Hartford and added to the count on the Secretary of State's website - thus increasing Malloy's statewide total to 566,511, compared to 560,867 for Foley -- pushing Malloy ahead by 5,644 votes.

They arrived at the Secretary of the State's office at 2:21 p.m., said Av Harris, the chief spokesman for Secretary Susan Bysiewicz.

"The returns are here,'' Harris told Capitol Watch. "The Bridgeport PD also delivered hard copies. They did that, and they faxed it. We're working on it. It's going to take a few hours to process it. It is stamped in. That means it's officially received.''

He continued, "They've gotten it in about two days late. These are the official results from Bridgeport. A lot of them start faxing them to us on election night. They have until 6 p.m. the following day, under the law, to deliver the hard copies to our office. We pretty much had everybody in - except Bridgeport.''
