Arts group to shift lobbying strategies; will focus on DC, not Hartford

Recognizing that the cupboard may be bare in Hartford, the Greater Hartford Arts Council is shifting its lobbying strategy away from Connecticut's Capitol and focusing on Washington instead.

The council's executive director, Kate Bolduc, says its $25,000 lobbying budget would be better spent in Washington, given the state's $3.5 billion budget deficit -- even though federal officials are also facing intense pressure to reign in spending.

"The reality is that the next year or two we're not looking at any additional dollars from the state," Bolduc told the Courant's Frank Rizzo. "We'll be trying to preserve what we have."
