U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy's Senate campaign is getting a boost from more than 60 Democrats in his home district.

Democratic activists and state and local officials from Southbury to Salisbury to Simsbury had announced they are backing Murphy. "A little over 4 years ago no one gave Chris a chance against Nancy Johnson, but he knocked off a 24 year incumbent by double digits,'' veteran Democratic activist Audrey Blondin of Litchfield said in a press release unveiling the endorsements.

"He did it through hard work. The 5th Congressional District will play a critical role in electing our next Senator and I am excited to be on Team Murphy because I have seen firsthand what Chris can do in competitive campaigns."

Murphy faces what could be a tough intra-party battle against former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz. Yes, these are his local peeps and its not surprising that they'd side with their congressman as he attempts to ascend to the upper chamber. But the 5th District is home to several key cities and could be a key battleground in any closely contested statewide race.
