Yale students will gather at noon today in Beinecke Plaza to protest U.S. support of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
"We are calling on President Obama, Senators Blumenthal and Lieberman to cease their support for the Mubarak regime out of respect for Egyptians' demands for broad reform, social change, and more democratic governance,'' Yaman Salahi, a Yale University Law School student, said in a press release announcing the protest.
Bassem Khalifa, an Egyptian-American graduate student at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, said the students hope to raise awareness about the impact U.S. policy has on the prospects for democracy in the Middle East.
"Historically, Washington has supported the regime of Hosni Mubarak. Egyptians would like that to stop," said Khalifa, whose family and friends have participated in protests in Cairo.
