A state police trooper has been suspended indefinitely after his cruiser crashed into a truck last week on Interstate 84 near the East Hartford-Manchester line.
The accident was initially reported Feb. 2 as the box truck having struck the trooper's car - sending Lt. Timothy Kradas, 47, to the hospital with severe injuries. In fact, it was the trooper's cruiser that struck the truck.
State police are investigating whether alcohol was involved in the case of a veteran, on-duty police supervisor in the middle of the afternoon on a major highway.
Kradas underwent surgery, and his injuries were severe enough that police did not immediately interview him after the crash. Some insiders expect that Kradas, who earns $110,000 per year, will be retiring in the near future.
The driver of the truck, a 61-year-old Massachusetts man, has not been charged.
