The salaries of the University of Connecticut's two top campus police officials have more than doubled since 2001. Chief Robert Hudd got nine raises worth $135,648 in that period, hiking his salary to an annual $255,848 last August. Maj. Ronald Blicher's annual pay grew from $92,000 in 2001 to $201,883 as of August, newly released public records show.

The accelerated rise in their salaries during the past decade adds to questions raised since The Courant's March 13 report that UConn's top cops are paid better than their counterparts at other universities and in big cities - including Hartford, which pays Chief Daryl Roberts $156,800, and even New York, which paid Police Commissioner Ray Kelly $212,000 as of two years ago.
