State Senate Minority Leader John McKinney, R-Fairfield, embarks on a "jobs tour" of his own Wednesday, with five stops planned between now and Aug. 31. His office said he plans to meet with more than 50 employers "from all corners of the state" to "discuss the impact of recent legislation and state budget decisions on Connecticut businesses and to solicit input for the anticipated September special session on jobs."

"One-party rule in Connecticut, where Democrats control the Governor's office and both chambers of the legislature for the first time in 20 years, has resulted in a number of major policy changes affecting Connecticut businesses and their ability to create jobs," McKinney said in a statement.

"Income and sales taxes have increased; the corporate tax surcharge was doubled; and we became the first state in the nation to require employers to pay employees for sick time-off.  The purpose of this tour is to get a first hand account of how Connecticut businesses are coping with these new laws and what changes the legislature should consider making when it convenes in special session next month,"  McKinney said in the statement.
