Ask the Blumenthal campaign a question that might be construed as critical and one of the first things they'll do is question where the idea for the story came from.
At least that was the reaction yesterday when I asked campaign spokeswoman Marla Romash about Blumenthal's donor list, which included a contribution from a man who is suing the state.
Romash immediately assumed the idea for the story was planted by Blumenthal's ultra-rich Republican rival, Linda McMahon. "If Linda McMahon wants to start dumping opposition research, that's fine but it doesn't change [Blumenthal's] record,'' Romash said. "Dick Blumenthal's record is very clear: He is a tireless fighter for the people of Connecticut."
