She was once on the shortlist of potential Congressional candidates herself, but on Thursday, Simsbury First Selectwoman Mary Glassman threw her support behind fellow Democrat Chris Donovan.
In a brief speech this afternoon, Glassman called Donovan, the Speaker of the House, a friend and his values and his support for education are what's needed in the 5th.
Glassman's backing could provide Donovan with an important edge over his Democratic rivals in the all-important Farmington Valley, which is widely considered a bellwether. Glassman also has a statewide profile, having run for lieutenant governor in 2006 and governor and lieutenant governor in 2010. It was rumored she would make her own bid for the 5th this year, but she instead opted to stay out of the race.
