U.S. Senate candidate William Tong has released a new video introducing him voters.
The 5-minute spot presents the rough outlines of Tong's biography: son of hard-working immigrants from China whose father came to the U.S. with 57 cents in his pocket, law school grad, scrappy political underdog and father of three young children.
The video is sprinkled with charming family photos and testimony from those who know Tong, including state Rep. Gerald Fox of Stamford and West Hartford police Chief James Strillacci.
The video may be the first time many voters have heard of Tong; the state representative from Stamford, doesn't have the name recognition of his Democratic opponents, former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz and U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy.
But in a political climate that puts a premium on having a compelling personal story -- and in an economic climate where telling that voters that you know what it's like to struggle -- telling your story would appear to be a smart move.
