The Secretary of the State's office is busy reviewing the signatures submitted by political candidates seeking a place on the Aug. 10 primary ballot.
As of late Thursday afternoon, it was unclear whether pundit-author-broker and Republican U.S. Sen. candidate Peter Schiff had submitted enough signatures to qualify for the primary.
Av Harris, spokesman for the Secretary of the State's office, said Schiff's fate should be clear tomorrow or early Monday. "We want to be absolutely certain before we say anything,'' Harris said.
Early results for three Republicans Congressional candidates are encouraging. Mark Greenberg, who is running in the 5th, and Rob Merkle and Rick Torres, both running in the 4th, are likely to qualify, Harris said, though he notes that the process of verifying signatures is not complete.
"We're in the process of reviewing everything, making sure we're double and triple certain,'' Harris said.
