State Rep. Bill Hamzy of Plymouth used to back Rob Simmons. "Rob always puts service above self, and his experience, character and vision make him the best choice to be our next U.S. Senator,'' Hamzy said a few months back.
But with Simmons effectively out of the race and Linda McMahon emerging as the winner at last months' GOP's nominating convention, Hamzy is now backing McMahon.
"Today, I wholeheartedly endorse Linda McMahon for U.S. Senate. Our party had a spirited convention, where Republican leaders around the state had to choose among several candidates, all with loyal supporters dedicated to their campaigns," Hamzy said in a press release issued by the McMahon campaign. "It's time for our party to come together and support our nominee. Linda won the convention, and she is the candidate who can get our economy moving again and defeat Richard Blumenthal in November."
Hamzy is one of the few high profile Simmons backers who have publicly transfered their support to McMahon.
