Good story in The Hour today about all the campaigns that have opened up headquarters in Norwalk. Sacred Heart University professor Gary Rose is quoted as saying the city has become "quite relevant" for Fairfield County elections and now those running for statewide office, such as Ned Lamont, are opening campaign offices there, too.
But if Norwalk is a downstate hub for politicos, West Hartford is surely ground zero for candidates in the center of the state. Linda McMahon, Mike Fedele and Tom Foley have all set up shop in the WH, perhaps there are others as well. You can scarcely pop into Starbucks without bumping into one staffer or another.
West Hartford is already a hot spot for judicial nominees -- as noted in May, three of the nine new judges appointed by Gov. Rell this year are from West Hartford. (Lawyer and blogger Ryan McKeen provided a historical look at the phenomenon, observing that the town has produced 48 judicial nominees since 1985, more than any other community. "The MDC should test the water in West Hartford for law," McKeen wrote.)
Now politcos are flocking to WH Center as well. Maybe it's Blue Back Square that's pulling them in.
