The Bush tax cuts have a huge impact in lower Fairfield County, particularly in the affluent towns of Greenwich, New Canaan, Darien, Westport, and Weston, among others.
In a good year, Greenwich alone can contribute $600 million to Connecticut's coffers from the state income tax. Sales taxes and other taxes push the total even higher.
In the Fourth Congressional District, U.S. Rep. Jim Himes of Greenwich and state Sen. Dan Debicella of Shelton have been debating over the possible extensions of the Bush tax cuts, which are scheduled to expire at the end of the year.
