Q.U. poll react

This election is about jobs and the economy, and Dick Blumenthal's challenge over the next two and a half weeks will be to explain how he can put Connecticut back to work without an understanding of how jobs are created. With the economy as the overwhelming concern of struggling families, only 13 percent of voters agree with Mr. Blumenthal's claim that our economy is in 'good times.'

From Ed Patru, spokesman for Republican Linda McMahon:

"We have always said this election will be close, and as is typically the case in close elections, polling will fluctuate. Dick Blumenthal's special interest-funded campaign and Washington Democrats have spent the past three weeks running attacks against Linda - ads based on claims that The New York Times, CNN, The Hartford Courant and the Connecticut Mirror have categorized as misleading and untruthful. And while those attacks did have a temporary impact, it's very clear to us that this race has stabilized and voters are once again focused on economic recovery and job creation.

"Voters are moving away from Dick Blumenthal because they recognize he cannot create jobs and his tax-and-spend philosophy is in lockstep with Washington's failed economic strategy. They are growing increasingly concerned about the impact Dick Blumenthal's support for a national energy tax will have on their family budget. At the same time, our polling shows that voters are deeply troubled by Blumenthal's dishonesty and they are growing increasingly concerned about his habit of being untruthful."

From Mindy Myers, Democrat Richard Blumenthal's campaign manager:

"Dick Blumenthal is going to continue crossing the state, listening to people and asking for their support. And we will continue to work like we are 10 points down because there is a lot at stake during this election and with our opponent spending $50 million to fuel her negative attack machine we know that this is going to be a tough race until the very end.  The people of Connecticut need, and a deserve, a Senator like Dick Blumenthal who is going to stand up and fight for them in Washington."
