More on the AIDS activists who disrupted Obama's speech in Bridgeport

As we all know by now, it wasn't all applause and shouts of "Yes We Can!" at this afternoon's rally in Bridgeport.

President Obama's speech was interrupted by student activists seeking more money for global AIDS prevention programs. The protesters were also in Boston when Obama made a campaign stop there two weeks ago.

While Obama at first seemed a bit flustered by the interruption, he quickly regained his footing and told the boisterous crew that they'd do better targeting Republicans, who he said have done far less for the global fight against AIDS.

But the activists say that's not the point. Obama promised to increase spending on worldwide AIDS prevention and treatment programs by $1 billion, a promise the students say he has not kept.

"I campaigned for President Obama in New Hampshire,'' said Harvard student Marguerite Thorp, via press release. "I came today because I still believe that he could be the president that ends global AIDS."

Yale's David Carel said he's been disappointed that Obama's budget requests to Congress  don't contain the amount he pledged. "That's why I came out and raised my voice today on this issue."

Obama told the protesters that without fixing the U.S. economy, many things, including AIDS prevention programs, won't receive funding.
